VISIT is a female-founded social venture based in Providence, Rhode Island. VISIT was top finalist in MassChallenge Rhode Island 2020, finalist and "Fan Favorite" in Get Started Rhode Island 2020, a graduate of the Spring 2020 Impact Accelerator at Social Enterprise Greenhouse, and has been featured in the Boston Globe and Rhode Island Inno.
The idea for VISIT started with co-founder Layne Mayer and her mother, Dr. Lynn Serper. With a background in special education and personal experience losing and regaining cognitive ability, Dr. Serper developed a method to socially engage with people living with dementia. For over 20 years, Dr. Serper worked with individuals living with dementia and their families, helping them maintain social and cognitive capabilities and feel more confident in conversations and in daily life.
Inspired by her mother’s work and incredible impact, Layne was driven to validate her mother’s method and figure out a way to bottle it into something accessible and engaging to all families needing support and connection.
Since Summer 2019, the VISIT concept has undergone intensive research with guidance from a spectrum of industry professionals and caregivers. Our team completed a user test in December 2020, with participants from all across the country praising the VISIT program. In April 2021, we began a user test with a regional nonprofit healthcare organization and their international caregiver groups.
Dr. Lynn Serper improved the lives of hundreds of people living with dementia and their families with her engaging activities, endless positivity, and bubbly conversation. Although her life was cut short due to COVID-19, VISIT continues her legacy—guiding families and caregivers everywhere to connect with loved ones through meaningful activities, stories, and positive conversation (whether two-sided or one-sided).
We want to hear from you! Our team is committed to continuously connecting with families and professionals, gathering feedback, and improving our solution.
